Amilcar Packer was born in 1974 in Santiago, Chile, and moved to São Paulo, Brazil in 1982, where he currently lives and works. He graduated from the University of São Paulo with a philosophy degree, holds a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from the Pontifical University of São Paulo and is a PhD student at the Social Justice Institute (GRSJ) at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Amilcar Packer gives new meanings to everyday objects, architecture, and the human body, and he himself frequently acts as the main protagonist of his performances, videos, photographs, and installations. The artist/philosopher ruminates on how the world is organized with the help of language. His projects confront the prevailing and homogeneous historical, political, and social structures that limit the freedom of the individual.
